In-Class Assignment - Re-Amping
Switchfoot Sound-alike
Today you will be re-creating the first 4 measures of the iconic Switchfoot song, "Meant to Live"
1. Open the GarageBand file below titled Switchfoot.zip

2. You will see that there are two audio tracks within the project
3. The first track is labeled Guitar Reference and is the original audio of the Switchfoot song in which you will mimic in this projec
4. The second track is labeled Guitar Dry and is a pre-recorded region of the guitar part without any stomp box effects or amps assigned to it
5. Listen to the Guitar Reference track and notice with your eyes and ears how the track is split across the stereo spectrum in different sections
6. Split the Guitar Dry track region at the precise panning change locations as the Guitar Reference region by placing your playhead then selecting command+T
7. Add a new audio track by selecting command+D, then rename the original Guitar Dry track to Guitar Dry Left and the new track to Guitar Dry Right
8. Drag the second and fourth split region to the Guitar Dry Right track
9. Copy (command+C) and paste (command+V) the last split region from the Guitar Dry Left track to the Guitar Dry Right track
10. Pan the Guitar Dry Left track all the way to the Left and the Guitar Dry Right track all the way to the Right
11. It is time to amp the dry guitar tracks, so:
12. Click on the Guitar Dry Left track and make sure it turns from dark gray to light gray
13. Click the Smart Control button in the upper left-hand corner

14. Click the Inspector button to bring up the plug-ins
15. Click the drop-down arrow next to Plug-ins
16. Click below the Channel EQ and add the Amp Designer plug-in
16. Audition the different amp pre-sets until you've found something that sounds similar to the Reference Guitar track
17. Do steps 11 through 16 for the Guitar Dry Right track
18. Next class we will be learning about amp settings and pedalboard effects to refine the Switchfoot project, so be sure to save this project to an external hard drive or USB flash drive
